At the foot of Sonoma Mountain, lies a secluded 250 acre private valley that is part of the Bennett Valley AVA, covered in elegantly manicured vineyards, clusters o native oaks and the meandering Matanzas Creek water shed. The gated valley community divided into five vineyard estates collectively called “Chateau de Vigne”. Estate parcel 4, the Destein Estate, is the largest and most desirable of the sites. It sits in the center of the valley, atop a 22 acre oak covered knoll, surrounded by hundreds of acres of vineyards.

The Destein Estate comprises 52 acres of land, of which over 32 acres are prime Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyard. The grapes from the vineyard go primarily to La Crema and Matanzas Creek Wineries. The Destein family retains a ton of their grapes each year to create 50 cases of their own estate bottled wines. Their wines have won numerous awards over the years at Marin and Sonoma County wine competitions, including the Gold Medal “Best of All Reds” for their Merlot at the 2008 Sonoma Vintage Festival.

The estate building site is located at the edge of the 20 acre oak covered knoll overlooking the vineyards. The mostly lever, “construction ready” site is easily reached from a paved driveway. An engineered mound septic system was completed in 1998. Power and phone service were brought to the site in 2000. A new 5,000 gallon water tank was installed in 2004, providing water service and a fire hydrant to the building site. Water comes from a 350 foot deep well, rated at over 100 gallons per minute.

The vineyard includes a 1,100 square foot farm worker “Rose Garden Cottage” at the edge of the vineyards. There is a second 1,000 square foot “Vineyard View Cottage” on the knoll overlooking the vineyards that is for owner use and will ultimately become the guest cottage for the new estate villa once it is completed.
